The DMV’s come up artist himself, Rico White has finally released his new project entitled “Spectrum”. This is definitely a more grown-up mixtape for Rico where you can tell he has progressed sound wise with. When I first listened to this tape I heard different flows reminiscent of J. Cole and Earl Sweatshirt but I also concluded that Rico White has definitely established his own unique, word play filled style of rapping. Rico offered heavy hitting as well as classically sampled beats with intros and interludes including a track entitled “Determination” produced by 6ix (DMV artist Logic’s house producer) on this tape although most of the production was done by Rico himself. I enjoyed spectrum’s creativity throughout the mixtape which was spotted early on, you can really tell that Rico White put a lot of thought into every song that was included. I believe that Rico White has enough raw talent to make a difference in the Hip-Hop world and if he continues grinding then that difference will be made. Rico White’s “Spectrum” received a 4.5/5 for this weeks Sunday Mixer but it would of received a 5/5 if the message behind the tape was more clear, other than that this project is a huge step in the right direction for the DMV Hip-Hop scene.
