Sunday Mixer: Action Bronson – Rare Chandeliers (Produced by The Alchemist)

Action Bronson, the recently signed Chef turned rapper just dropped his latest project entitled “Rare Chandeliers” produced by my personal favorite producer, The Alchemist. When I first started listening to this project I had high hopes for the mixtape because I knew that Action Bronson just signed with Warner Brothers Records and that would generally lead to some sort of improved quality of music or maybe a drive to change up his sound. The first noted problem with the tape was a sleeper, the mixtape was produced by The Alchemist. Honestly I really like The Alchemists past work and I think he is a very creative producer but maybe he tried to top the creativity of his old beats (literally beats sampled from vintage tracks)and took it a little too far. I found that more than half of the beats on “Rare Chandeliers” could not actually pass as Hip-Hop/Rap beats but that’s not really the problem. These were barely passable for beats that a rapper should be rapping over. As a musician myself I can see where the Alchemist was coming from and I found the beats to be impressive form a musicians stand point but the consumer side of me did not enjoy his work. Action stayed true with a variety of nice flows and even some skits that were appreciated but a little lengthy at times along with some samples for intros that dragged on a little bit. I think that Action Bronson came through with hos chef style and unique word play as usual but he could of maybe tried going into something heavier this time around for sure. I decided to give “Rare Chandeliers” a 3.5/5 because Action Bronson and The Alchemist showed everyone that they are creative and talented musicians but definitely did not go the right direction with the project.
