Monday Mixer: A$AP Rocky – Long.Live.A$AP

A$AP Rocky has come a long way from being dead broke in Harlem, New York to getting the chance to make tracks with some of Hip-Hop’s greats and big names and even grabbing Rihanna’s butt all in a very short span of time. After getting his A$AP Mob movement out, collaborating with Black Scale for lines of clothing, and even shooting a documentary on the A$AP lifestyle all leading up to the release of his first full album entitled “Long.Live.A$AP”. When I first acquired this album I noticed that I had to of course listen to it from start to finish in hopes that it might have a solid story behind it like that of Kendrick Lamar’s “good kid m.A.A.d city”. I didn’t notice any sort of legitimate pattern at first but the main thing that stood out were the beats. They were sampled perfectly and I cannot wait to get the vinyl for the album to see the credits for the producers because whoever produced and mastered the album did a very good job with old classic samples to a lot of slowed down vocals. Along with the beats being amazing there was an insane amount of build up on each song leading to the apex of the beat dropping and A$AP going in which showed me that A$AP Rocky wanted to show off his raw talent and his own brand of flow to his loyal fans who have gotten him so far. The features were fairly dispersed throughout the album and I believe that A$AP came through with the right amount of features along with the right artists to be featured on his first album. I can honestly say that if you did not like A$AP Rocky’s movement before then his “Long.Live.A$AP” album will definitely change your mind. It is easy to hear that A$AP Rocky put a lot of time, thought, and effort into his first album and defined his sound from now on. The album had meaning and feeling behind it, great features, beats, and it is definitely something that I will be listening to  again and again. The only problem that I found with the album was that the songs did not really have that much diversity between each other but other than that A$AP Rocky’s “Long.Live.A$AP” album deserves a 4.8/5, go out and cop it on January 15th!
