Not too long ago the Chef turned rapper Action Bronson linked up with producer Party Supplies to create a collaborative mixtape entitled “Blue Chips”. Me being a big fan of Action Bronson I had very high expectations for this project and during the first few songs I was very impressed. As I kept listening to the mixtape I really got a 90′s rap kind of vibe that I enjoyed but I had to come to the conclusion that Party Supplies dropped the ball on this tape. Obviously Action Bronson is a unique rapper and thats probably what has brought him to become successful in the rap game. I haven’t really heard another rapper talk about food mixed in with the generic topics that MC’s usually cover. On the other hand I feel like if Action Bronson wants to excel he needs to keep his flow the same but definitely rap over some more mainstream/traditionally styled beats. I’m just not a fan of hearing Action bring bars on bars of flow to the table over some pretty boring sampled 70s Rock power chords. I liked his tracks “Double Breasted”, “9-24-11″, “103 And Roosy”, and “Tapas” because they brought in a little more bass and Action Bronson responded accordingly making them better tracks in my mind. I gave Action Bronson x Party Supplies “Blue Chips” Mixtape a 3.5/5 mostly because the beats just weren’t there and in the end that might have taken away from Action’s rapping too.
